This incredible subterranean home called Walnut Barrow in Hertfordshire, U.K is a one of a kind dwelling, that is being pitched as a home for a celebrity due to the privacy the design affords.
The property took 18 months to build. Over 5,000 tones of soil was excavated in the progress, with enough replaced on top of the build to hide the building out of site from prying eyes.
The build contains four bedrooms, all of which are en-suite, a large living room, dining room and kitchen, a cinema and a central courtyard.
To allow as much natural daylight as possible, the house has a 45-foot long south facing expanse of glass. This light serves the kitchen, dining and living areas. All these areas open up to a sunken courtyard, taking away any claustrophobia that could come from living underground.
The property is state of the art in eco design, with built in programmable lighting, solar panels and a heat recovery and ventilation system.
